Run one audio-only export first
Duplicate the sequence and export its audio only as an uncompressed WAV file. Keep the same sequence, duration, audio tracks, and effects. Disable video export, but do not clear the cache or bypass audio effects yet.
Adobe confirms that Premiere can export audio files, while Adobe Media Encoder lets you select video and audio export separately. That makes an audio-only file a useful isolation test: the audio path changes, while the sequence content remains comparable.
What the error does—and does not—tell you
An “Audio rendering error,” “Error compiling audio,” or message mentioning an audio exporter gives you a useful direction, not a root cause. Treat it as evidence that audio processing deserves a controlled test.
The wording alone does not prove that one clip is damaged, an audio effect is faulty, the sample rate is wrong, or the media cache is corrupt. Changing all four at once may make the next export succeed, but it destroys the comparison that could explain why.
Interpret the audio-only result
The WAV export fails
The failure is reproducible without the video path. Keep working in the duplicate and isolate one audio track, clip, or effect at a time.
The WAV export succeeds
Audio alone did not reproduce the failure. Do not call the issue fixed: repeat the combined export and investigate the interaction with the selected format or exporter.
Conforming appears in the message
Inspect source and sequence sample rates before deleting anything. A sample-rate difference can require additional audio processing during export.
If the WAV fails, isolate one audio variable
- Preserve the original sequence. Run every test in the duplicate.
- Repeat a smaller range when a timecode is available. Use the same In and Out points for every comparison.
- Bypass one audio effect or mute one suspect track. Do not change the video codec, renderer, cache, and audio routing at the same time.
- Export the same WAV again. If the result changes, restore the suspect and reproduce the difference before treating it as confirmed.
A successful bypass strengthens a hypothesis; it does not prove that the effect itself is defective. The effect may only expose a problem when combined with a particular clip, channel layout, automation state, or section of the mix.
Check sample rates when the evidence mentions conforming
Adobe explains that Premiere processes audio at the sequence sample rate and that mismatched sample rates can trigger conforming during export or audio-preview generation. Premiere stores conformed audio in CFA files and waveform information in PEK files.
This does not make every 44.1 kHz source inside a 48 kHz sequence an error. It means the conversion is a real processing step worth checking when the failure message or log points to conforming. Record the source and sequence rates before changing either one.
Clear the media cache only when the evidence supports it
If the isolated audio export still fails and the message mentions conforming, media cache, CFA, or PEK files, rebuild the cache as a separate test. Adobe’s current procedure says to close all projects before removing all media cache files; deleted cache files are recreated when source media needs them.
After clearing the cache, reopen the duplicate and wait for audio conforming to finish before exporting the same WAV again. Do not modify the sequence during this comparison.
Clearing the cache first is a weak diagnostic habit: if the export then succeeds, you will not know whether the issue was stale conform data, an unfinished conform operation, or an unrelated transient condition.
If the message remains generic
Preserve the exact dialog and inspect the newest failed entry in AMEEncodingErrorLog.txt. A component, timecode, exporter, or conform-related line may narrow the next test. If no audio-specific evidence appears, return to the broader Premiere Pro export-failure workflow.

An audio-only failure tells you that the problem can be reproduced in the audio path. A successful WAV tells you only that this isolated test passed. Neither result identifies one cause automatically, and neither guarantees that the next full video-and-audio export will complete.
