What the error tells you
An accelerated-renderer message is evidence that Premiere encountered a problem while using its GPU-related render path. The message alone is not a diagnosis of one specific effect or driver.
Run one short test
Export only 5–10 seconds around the reported timecode. Disable effects in that zone one at a time and repeat the same short export. Keep the rest of the sequence unchanged, so the result is comparable.
If the zone uses H.264 or HEVC media
Adobe documents a separate decoding test for H.264 and HEVC: temporarily disable H.264/HEVC hardware-accelerated decoding in Preferences > Media, restart Premiere, then repeat the short export. This tests a decoding path; it does not prove that the GPU itself is the only cause.
How to read the result
- If disabling one effect changes the result, keep that effect isolated and check its version.
- If only the H.264/HEVC decoding test changes the result, investigate the source media and decoding settings.
- If neither test changes the result, do not assume a GPU fault: preserve the error message and continue with the other evidence available.
Limits
Premiere Pro 25.2 and later no longer offer the old Mercury Playback Engine “Software Only” renderer option. This guide does not recommend it for current supported versions. Export Doctor is read-only: it helps prioritize a controlled test and never changes a Premiere project automatically.
